How to Remove the Overhead Console in a 2014–2017 Honda Odyssey
Share
The overhead console in a 2014–2017 Honda Odyssey — the sunglasses holder and front dome light housing between the sun visors — pops out of the headliner with a few screws and some careful prying. If the dome lights quit, the buttons are worn out, or the sunglasses door is broken, here's exactly how we do it when we're pulling consoles for the store.
What you'll need
- Impact driver with a Phillips bit
- Pry tool
- Work gloves
Step 1: Press the sunglasses holder open and remove the screw inside
First step: press the sunglasses holder door open. There's a screw inside the compartment holding the front of the console — drive it out with the impact driver.

Step 2: Pop the map light lenses down — pry from this side only
Our next step is these lenses — you need to pry from this side, like this, and pop them down. If you do it from the other side you will break them — they've got these little latches and they only come out one way.

Step 3: Drive out the two Phillips screws behind the lenses
With the lenses off you'll see two more Phillips screws in there — drive them out with the impact driver. That's all the mounting hardware.

Step 4: Slip the console down out of the headliner
With the mounting hardware out, just slip the console down out of the headliner.

Step 5: Unplug the wiring connectors
Let the console hang and unplug the connectors from the back — there's a few plugs in here, just depress and pull.

Step 6: The overhead console is out
That's the whole job. The console comes out as one unit — housing, sunglasses door, dome lights, and switches. Installation is these steps in reverse: plug the wiring back in, slip it up into the headliner, and run the screws home.
What to check on the replacement
- Sunglasses door: open and close the sunglasses holder — the hinge and latch are the most common breakage on these consoles.
- Dome light function: check that the map light lenses aren't cracked and the switch buttons click and return.
- Clips and latches intact: check the mounting clips on the back of the console and the little lens latches — broken clips mean the console won't sit flush in the headliner.
- Color match: Odyssey interiors came in a few different shades — compare the listing photos to your headliner color.
