How to Remove the Sun Visor in a 2003–2006 Silverado or Sierra

Here's how to remove this sun visor from this '03 Silverado — a sagging or torn visor is one of those small things that drives you crazy every sunny day, and swapping one takes about five minutes. The visor is held by T15 Torx screws at the pivot mount and at the retainer clip. Here's exactly how we pull them.

What you'll need

  • A T15 Torx bit — I run it in the M12 impact driver in the video
  • That's it — no trim tools needed

Step 1: Drive out the pivot mount screws

The pivot mount has three screws — two behind the visor, one in front here. Drive them out with the T15.

Step 2: Drive out the retainer clip screw

At the outer end of the visor, there's one screw for the retainer clip. Drive it out with the T15.

Step 3: Lift the visor out

With the screws out, the whole visor lifts free — the pivot mount comes off the headliner with the visor. And the visor's removed.

What to check on the replacement

  • Mirror options: these visors came with and without a vanity mirror, and some have a lighted mirror with wiring — match your truck's setup.
  • Sag: the most common failure is a visor that won't stay up — ask the seller whether the pivot holds position.
  • Color: match your headliner color so the replacement blends in.
  • Retainer clip: confirm the outer clip is included and not cracked, since the visor won't stay clipped without it.
