How to Remove the Overhead Console in a 2004–2008 Ford F-150
Share
Today we're showing you how to remove the overhead console from these 2004–2008 F-150s. It's held in by clips, so it pops out by hand with no tools needed. First step: pull the front edge down. Second step: press the clip on the wiring connector and it's removed. Here's exactly how we pull them when we're getting consoles ready for the store.
What you'll need
- That's it — the console pops out by hand (we wear work gloves)
Step 1: Pull the front edge of the console down
First step: pull that down. Grab the front edge of the overhead console and pull it down and toward you. It's held by clips, so a firm pull pops the front loose.

Step 2: Let the console hang on its wiring
Lower the console and let it hang. You'll see the electronic module on the back side and the wiring running up into the headliner.

Step 3: Press the clip on the connector and unplug it
Second step: pull it off. Press the release clip on the wiring harness connector on the back of the console and pull it apart — and you've got it removed.

Step 4: Lift the console free
And you've got it removed. The wiring is left hanging from the headliner, ready for the replacement. Installation is these steps in reverse.

What to check on the replacement
- Color: match your interior — these came in tan and gray, and they aren't interchangeable if you care about the look.
- Storage door: open and close the compartment door and check the latch and hinge pins — the plastic hinge is the most common break point.
- The module on the back: if your console has the driver-information display module, make sure the replacement has it too — not every console came with one.
